The issue of diversity in the advertising has been mostly an internal (industry only) conversation. The fact that minorities are grossly underrepresented in the multibillion dollar industry that, as consumers, they contribute to greatly, has been an ongoing conversation since the ’60s. There are several factors that add to the fact that 15% of the ad industry are people of color, while our country’s minority population is 37%. One of those factors is the lack of exposure to this issue as well as the limited exposure to the jobs that are available in this industry (and there are jobs available, PLENTY).
Our goal is to spread awareness about this issue, as well as solutions that are available. We need your support to Thunder Clap this issue. If you can give one thing this holiday season, please lend your support to this effort. We need 250 people to make their voices heard about this effort. Marketing obviously, but I’d like to do Multicultural Marketing. Unfortunately I’m not quite sure where to start. I’ve gotten the experience side down most of my marketing experience in college has been dedicated to youth markets and multi-ethnic students.
I just need a good company with some entry level openings, that’s not in NY. I’m too poor to fly out there for an interview and miss school. :(
